CALGARY (February 15, 2022) — AECOM, the world’s trusted infrastructure consulting firm, announced today that it has formed a partnership with FMIS (Fort McKay Industrial Solutions) to create an energy hub for engineering, environment, and water solutions in Northern Alberta. The agreement, which is already in effect, will provide a centralized source for energy operations within the region and will advance leading edge solutions to climate change and greenhouse gas reductions through carbon capture utilization and sequestration.
“AECOM is committed to making a positive impact to the communities we serve and this agreement with FMIS reinforces our collective drive towards sustainable long-term goals, values, and principles that support the environment and communities in which we live and work,” said Ian Dyck, senior vice president with AECOM’s Canadian Water business. “We’re honoured and privileged to have the opportunity to build this relationship that recognizes the ancestry, heritage, and gifts of the Indigenous peoples of Canada.”
“Beyond providing exceptional service to our clients, our relationship with FMIS provides an opportunity for AECOM to help advance the priorities and interests of Fort McKay Métis Nation,” said Mark van der Woerd, vice president of business development with AECOM’s Canada region. “AECOM is committed to progressing our Reconciliation Action Plan in Canada and partnering with FMIS is an important step to strengthen our efforts and drive forward our goals.”
AECOM has deep expertise in energy, transportation, water, environment, buildings and places, and program and project management in the area. FMIS, the industrial solutions division of the McKay Métis Group (MMG), has complimentary expertise in contract management, business engagement services, and supply of chemicals and industrial materials. The agreement drives both firms’ commitment to add value to oil sands operations and contribute to the economic development in Northern Alberta, and more specifically for the Fort McKay Métis Nation.
“This partnership moves us in the direction that the oil sands are moving – towards world-class expertise in engineering, environment, and water solutions,” said Crystal Young, chief executive officer of MMG. “At the same time, this partnership contributes to community growth and sustainability in the region where our community lives and works. This is an example of what can be achieved when businesses and communities work together.”
“This relationship leverages strengths of both entities and creates synergies that will add significant value to our clients. Our goal is to improve our service offerings and be one of the most successful Indigenous businesses in North America,” said Volkan Celik, chief operating officer of FMIS.
Both AECOM and FMIS are members of the Canadian Council for Aboriginal Businesses (CCAB), an organization that connects people, businesses, and communities. FMIS is a Community-Owned and Certified Aboriginal Business and AECOM is a Progressive Aboriginal Relations Committed Company.
