About the Dr. K.C. Channabasappa Memorial PhD Scholarship
Dr. K. C. Channabasappa held the position of Acting Assistant Director of Saline Water Conversion and served as the Chief of Membrane Processes at the Office of Water Research and Technology (OWRT) within the U.S. Department of the Interior. Renowned as a strong proponent of membrane technology, he played a pivotal role in securing funding for advancements in this field. Tragically, Dr. Channabasappa passed away unexpectedly during his tenure at OWRT, leaving a profound void in the desalination community. In 1984, the merger of the International Desalination & Environment Association (IDEA) with the Water Supply Improvement Association (WSIA) resulted in the establishment of a trust dedicated to special scholarship grants. These grants were named in honor of Dr. K. C. Channabasappa, and the administration of these scholarships was entrusted to the newly rebranded International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA).
