On Feb. 9, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Water Power Technologies Office announced 10 winners of the third stage of the Waves to Water Prize, unlocking the door to the next stage of the prize, CREATE. The five-stage, $3.3 million contest aims to accelerate innovation in small, modular, wave-powered desalination systems capable of producing clean water in disaster recovery scenarios and water-scarce coastal and island locations.
In the CREATE Stage, competitors will have 180 days to build a functional prototype or proof-of-concept of their systems. Up to 10 winners will share a $500,000 prize pool, taking home up to $150,000 each. Learn more about the Waves to Water Prize and follow the competitors’ progress as they near the grand finale.
