IDRA Announces Application Period Open for Dr. K. C. Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship, 2020-21 

Boston, February 17, 2020 – The International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) is now accepting applications for the 2020-21 Dr. K. C. Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship, with final applications due June 15.

To be eligible for the award, applicants must have graduated from an accredited university in science or engineering. Moreover, the applicant must prove admission to an MSc or PhD program of studies in water purification technology. All applicants must be members of IDRA.

To apply, applicants must submit their undergraduate and graduate transcripts to IDRA, as well as an official statement of purpose, detailing the applicant’s planned career in the desalination and water reuse sector. Applicants should provide four (4) letters of recommendation, one of which must be completed by an IDRA member, in addition to the official Dr. K. C. Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship application, located on IDRA’s website here. Full details on application requirements can be viewed here.

Once the application window is closed, all applications will be reviewed by IDRA’s Education, Scholarship, and Fellowship Committee, with a final recipient announced no later than August 1, 2020. The recipient will be awarded the scholarship in two installments: the first, upon notification of a successful application; and the second, after IDRA has received a mid-term progress report from the student’s academic advisor.

 

About the Dr. K.C. Channabasappa Memorial Scholarship

Dr. K. C. Channabasappa was the Acting Assistant Director of Saline Water Conversion, and Chief of Membrane Processes at the Office of Water Research and Technology (OWRT), U.S Department of Interior. He was a great advocate of membrane technology and highly influential in getting funding in this direction. However, he died unexpectedly while at OWRT. His loss was felt throughout the desal community. When the International Desalination & Environment Association (IDEA) merged with the Water Supply Improvement Association (WSIA) in 1984, a trust earmarked for special scholarship grants in the name of Dr. K.
