IDRA announces March 15-17, 2021 as New Dates for the International Water Reuse and Recycling Conference

Monday, 25 May, 2020, Boston, MA – The International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA), a global non-profit organization focused on advanced water treatment solutions and non-conventional water resource solutions to offset growing water scarcity, has announced its new dates for the Biennial Water Reuse and Recycling Conference to be March 15-17, 2021.  The conference represents a global collaborative effort to implement best practices surrounding water reuse and recycling, taking into account regulations, financial challenges, innovative technologies, success stories, and cutting-edge research. The program combines keynote presentations, dynamic panel discussions and a robust technical exchange of peer reviewed papers.

The exchange will begin on Monday, March 15th with two half-day invite only events.  The conference is officially opened that evening with a welcome reception graciously hosted by the Government of Spain at the majestic residence of H.E. Ambassador Alfonso Dastis, Palazzo Montorio, Rome. On Tuesday, March 16th and Wednesday, March 17th, in addition to the peer reviewed technical program, special panel sessions will be conducted and are outlined below. As well, a very special “Evening in Rome” networking event is planned for Tuesday, March 16th.

Monday, March 15

9:00—12:30: Industrial Water Reuse Workshop to Address Water Needs in Oil & Gas, Mining, F&B, and other industrial sectors

14:00—17:30: Utility Leaders Summit Covering Project Success Case Studies, Public Utility Challenges and Solutions Related to Reuse Projects

 

Tuesday, March 16

Financial Challenges for Public Utilities Incorporating Water Reuse
This panel will discuss the challenges public utilities have when incorporating large scale water reuse infrastructure projects, addressing the level of warranties, project structures, and financial needs for the various uses of water reuse.

Water Reuse and Industrial Water Needs: Meeting the Challenges and Opportunities

Wednesday, March 17

Sharing Practical Experience of Reuse Programs: Lessons Learned
Water reuse is quickly becoming a need for many countries around the globe. In this panel we will gather leaders from countries and regions that have been leading the way in water reuse, such as China, Spain, Israel, India and North America. They will share about their practical experience, discuss challenges and opportunities they faced, explain the lessons that have been learned.

Rapidly Growing Cities of the Middle East – North Africa Region and New Policies for Water Reuse
It is evident that there is increased awareness of a need for diversified reuse. The UAE, KSA, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Egypt are implementing policies that come as a consequence of  a greater ongoing investment in tertiary treatment of wastewater and improved O&M of the assets that give the agencies assurance of reliable TSE quality that can be cost effectively reused. There is a great need to adopt reuse water to replace desalinated water for Industrial purposes as part of national sustainability goals and this is driving change.

Pre-conference IDRA Academy Master Class on Water Supply Resilience Planning and Desalination and Water Reuse Planning

Sunday, March 14

Morning Session

Water Supply Resilience Planning, instructed by Dr. Gisela Kaiser, Director Sustainable Water Management, Water Globe Consultants LLC. This segment of the course provides an overview in how coastal cities can potentially plan for increased resilience against shocks and stresses such as drought and climate change, built on the case study of the Cape Town drought. It provides a broad framework of demand and supply and the building blocks for development of a strategy to securing a resilient water future.

Afternoon Session

Desalination and Water Reuse Planning, instructed by Mr. Nikolay Voutchkov, President, Water Globe Consultants LLC. This segment of the course provides an overview of the use of membrane desalination and water reuse as sources of alternative water supply in a diversified portfolio for resilient water supply.  The course provides fundamentals of reverse osmosis technology and current trends in desalination and water reuse.
