IDRA Presents the 2019 Industry and Sustainability Awards at the Gala Dinner of the World Congress, “Crossroads to Sustainability,” Hosted by the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA)

Dubai, UAE, October 24 2019 – At the 2019 IDRA World Congress Gala Dinner, hosted by DEWA, the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) recognized the achievements of corporations and institutions from across the globe by co-presenting the IDRA Industry & Sustainability Awards with the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) with the participation of His Excellency Saeed Mohammed al Tayer, the host of the 2019 World Congress. Eleven Industry and Sustainability awards were issued in total, along with one Presidential Award at the conclusion of the awards ceremony.

Just before this presentation of awards, the Gala Dinner witnessed the ceremonious passing of the IDRA flag from the 2019 World Congress Host, the DEWA, to the 2021 World Congress Host. His Excellency Simon Kiprono Chelugui, Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Water and Sanitation, Kenya, and Hon. Fatma Awale of the Ministry of Water, Mombasa County accepted the flag from His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer. The IDRA flag will reside in Kenya until the 2021 IDRA World Congress.

After this passing of the flag, IDRA’s award ceremony began. Dignitaries such as HE Julio Casar Kosaka, Vice Minister, Construction and Sanitation, Peru, HE Fawsiya Mohamed Sheikh, Minister for Water and Energy, Federal Gov’t of Somalia, and Mr. Peter Joo Hee NG, Chief Executive of PUB Singapore were in attendance.

IDRA received over 50 excellent nominations for the Industry & Sustainability awards. Winners were chosen by the Industry & Sustainability Awards Committee, which included Professor Ta-Shung Chung, National University of Singapore, Professor Glen T. Daigger, University of Michigan, One Water Solutions LLC, Mr. Ghassan Ejjeh, BESIX Group France, and Mr. Michael Markus, Orange County Water District. Recipients of these awards were honored for their innovative efforts to meet the increasing demands for drinking water and their implementation of sustainable practices.

The awards were co-presented by His Excellency Saeed Mohammed al Tayer, Managing Director and CEO of DEWA, IDRA Secretary General, Shannon McCarthy, and IDRA President, Mr. Miguel Angel Sanz. Mr. Imad Makhzoumi, Chairman of the 2019 World Congress Technical Program Committee, acted as masters of ceremony throughout the evening.

The awards ceremony concluded with the issuance of an IDRA Presidential Award, awarded to His Excellency for his profound generosity to IDRA throughout the 2019 World Congress and for his visionary work in the advanced water treatment market.
