IDRA Signs Collaborative MOU with ANIMP to Enhance Italian Supply Chain Participation in Global Water Sector

Rome, Italy – September 14-15, 2023 – The IDRA Secretary General Shannon McCarthy and IDRA Vice President, Alejandro Sturniolo were honored to participate in the 48th National Conference ANIMP (Associazione Nazionale di Impiantistica Industriale) -UAMI at Confindustria, Rome, on September 14th and 15th, 2023, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ANIMP’s foundation. The event focused on “Water and Energy: New Scenarios for Italian Industrial Plants.” It brought together representatives from the business, academic, and institutional sectors, offering a platform to delve into the prospects emerging for the industry. With the industrial sector playing a pivotal role in reshaping the energy market, the conference was a vital forum for exploring future possibilities and challenges. As the discussions at the conference delved into the intricate relationship between water and energy, IDRA’s presence highlighted the growing importance of desalination and water reuse solutions in addressing the evolving need to offset water scarcity.

ANIMP President, Dr. Marco Villa stated, “Water represents a vital resource for our life, and in the past in Italy, we have considered it was available and easy to source. On the contrary, it is more and more strategic and difficult to obtain. In this connection, ANIMP has decided this year to include water within its core portfolio and to look for international partnership to enhance the ability of its associates to stay in the market with a competitive profile. The Agreement with IDRA will allow ANIMP and its Italian supply chain to be updated in the latest technologies and the market trends and therefore is one important milestone in the achievement of its targets.”

“The International Desalination and Reuse Association equally focused on Water Reuse (IDRA) is one of the most important associations worldwide in the sector, with an international presence and a mission which will fit within ANIMP objectives. The signature of the Agreement with IDRA represents a significant step in meeting ANIMP goals and will help position the Italian supply chain in the international market,” Mr. Silvio Oliva, Director of Water Sector in ANIMP.

“We are thrilled to announce this new collaboration between the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) and ANIMP. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our commitment to strengthening water sustainability efforts. Italian members have played a significant role in the IDRA over the past fifty years and held a large market share in the 1970’s building out large-scale desalination. Many Italian Universities and Research Centers focus on technical and engineering needs for the water and energy sectors, providing new talent to support growth. The Agreement with IDRA will enable ANIMP and its members to engage in programs of the IDRA and stay at the forefront of technological advancements and international market trends. We thank Dr. Marco Villa, President of ANIMP, Mr. Silvio Oliva, and Mr. Edoardo Garibotti, who are leading the new Water division of ANIMP, for their vision and dedication to making this collaboration a reality,” stated Ms. Shannon McCarthy, IDRA Secretary General.
