Lantania and Jarquil win the contract to build the Guadalcázar wastewater treatment plant

Madrid, 5 December 2023. Lantania and Jarquil are to build the Guadalcázar Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Córdoba. The Regional Government of Andalusia, through the Directorate General of Water Infrastructure, has awarded the project to build the new plant to the joint venture formed by the two companies, with a budget of 4.6 million euros.

The works are scheduled to take 18 months, with 12 months for construction and six months for commissioning of the treatment plant. This new facility will represent a significant improvement to the sewerage network of the city of Córdoba, which currently has a single sewerage network that discharges directly into the river without treatment. The new treatment plant will have a treatment capacity equivalent to a maximum of 2,700 inhabitants.

The works to be carried out include not only the facilities needed to collect wastewater (collectors, wells, manholes, pumping stations and spillways) and to treat it (WWTP), but also additional works such as the construction of power lines to supply both the WWTP and the Pumping Stations, as well as the construction of access roads to the various facilities.

The works include the construction of collectors to carry wastewater from the current discharge point to the future treatment plant. Here the water will be treated for subsequent discharge into the adjacent watercourse, in accordance with current environmental legislation.

The treatment line of the proposed WWTP will consist of a water line including a pre-filter well, pre-treatment and pumping prior to rotary sieve filtering, primary settling in an Imhoff tank, biodiscs, secondary settling, disinfection and discharge. The sludge line will include sludge digestion in the Imoff tank, sludge thickener, the pumping of secondary sludge to the Imoff tank, thickener and dewatering system, sludge dewatering by centrifuge with the addition of polyelectrolyte, and final storage of the sludge.
