NX Filtration, the global provider of breakthrough direct nanofiltration (dNF) membrane technology for pure and affordable water, was selected by PT. Bayu Surya Bakti Konstruksi, an Indonesian specialist in constructing water and wastewater treatment plants, to supply its dNF membranes for various new projects. These orders follow previous projects in Indonesia related to drinking water supply for the city of Dumai in Sumatra, Meranti Island, and Indonesia’s biggest state owned hospital in Jakarta.
The new orders relate to various treatment plants that PT. Bayu is currently developing in Indonesia. These are all based on NX Filtration’s unique dNF membrane technology, that effectively removes color and micropollutants from water whilst offering sustainability benefits by strongly reducing energy and chemicals consumption.
In 2022, PT. Bayu already started the design of a water treatment plant for the production of drinking water and industrial process water in Medang Kampai. This plant will have a capacity of approximately 450 m3/h and is expected to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2023. In addition, PT. Bayu is currently starting the development of a facility that produces drinking water from a lake in Bengkalis with a final capacity of 360 m3/h. Finally, NX Filtration received an order from PT. Bayu for the first industrial wastewater project in Indonesia based on dNF technology.
These new projects follow previous projects of PT. Bayu in Indonesia for which NX Filtration supplied its dNF technology. In Sumatra, a 180 m3/h drinking water plant has successfully been running for over a year, providing the city of Dumai with drinking water produced from the local Masjid river. NX Filtration’s technology is also already successfully being used to produce drinking water at Meranti Island since December 2022 (54 m3/h with future expansion potential to 200 m3/h) and for Rumah Sakit Cipto Mangunkusomo, Indonesia’s biggest state owned hospital in Jakarta since 2021.

Nyoman Yasa, CEO at PT. Bayu, comments: “We are happy to bring our cooperation with NX Filtration to the next stage. Our large-scale municipal drinking water plant in Dumai has demonstrated for more than a year how effective and sustainable NX Filtration’s hollow fiber nanofiltration technology is in producing clean water. Based on this strong reference we are now able to use this technology to widely address water quality and availability issues that are increasingly prevalent throughout the country.”
Michiel Staatsen, CEO at NX Filtration, comments: “We are proud to continue our relationship with PT. Bayu through multiple follow-on projects in Indonesia. Our direct nanofiltration technology has already proved its value in previous drinking water projects, where we are demonstrating consistent high performance combined with very low energy and chemicals consumption compared to traditional technologies. We are happy to now extent the applications to also enable the reuse of industrial wastewater in Indonesia.”
