Dr. Hubert Fleming is Head, Global Engineering, Anglo American plc and was formerly Global Managing Director, Hatch Ltd. He received master and doctorate degrees in chemical engineering from Cornell University, and is a graduate of the Executive Management Program at Harvard Business School. Hu is well known in engineering and environmental circles, with more than a hundred publications, sixteen patents, and four books in various aspects of water/engineering management, including the Handbook of Membrane Technology. He was awarded the 1992 PSP Award for Best Technical Book, the 2003 Arthur Anderson Award for Mergers & Acquisitions, and the 2011 GWI Global Water Award. He serves on the board of directors of several US and international companies.
Hu has been co-chairman, Water Group, International Council of Mining and Metals, Chairman, Task Group on Water for World Health Organization, EPA’s Clean Water Act Advisory Group. The ASTM D-19 Committee on Water Standards, the Water Reuse Association, as well as chairman of NATO’s Advisory Group on Environmental Management. He has twice been invited speaker at the United Nations, as well as various Congressional committees on environmental and mining issues. Hu is a native of Braxton County, West Virginia, and still maintains family property in West Virginia.
