Dr. Motasem Abushaban

PhD Researcher, IHE Delft

Abushaban is a Researcher in the field of Water Treatment and Desalination. His research focuses on the development of methods to monitor and control biological fouling, organic fouling, particulate fouling, and scaling of reverse osmosis (RO) and ultrafiltration membrane systems. He is also interested in optimizing the pretreatment of RO membrane system. His work included bench-scale, pilot-scale and even full-scale plants.

Moreover, Abushaban has worked as a consultant in several projects related to Desalination and Water Technology such as assessing and troubleshooting the pre-treatment and membrane filtration performance of various full-scale seawater/industrial treatment plants in Australia, Oman, the Netherlands, and United Arab Emirates. Furthermore, Abushaban worked as Water and Wastewater Consultant Engineer, in which he managed designing and rehabilitation of several water supply and sanitation projects in Palestine.

Abushaban have received a number of prestigious awards including the Innovation award of the International Desalination and Reuse Association (IDRA) at International World Congress 2017 and the Middle East Desalination Research Centre (MEDRC) Scholarship.

Abushaban has obtained his PhD from the Delft University of Technology, MSc in Water Supply Engineering from UNESCO-IHE, Netherlands, and BSc degree in Civil Engineering from the Islamic University of Gaza (IUG), Palestine.
