SUEZ, a global leader in circular solutions for water and waste, has become a member of the Global Impact Coalition (GIC). Incubated at the World Economic Forum, the GIC is an independent coalition working with industry leaders to enable net-zero emissions in the chemical sector. SUEZ has committed to providing the coalition with its expertise in recycling and recovery solutions, essential to achieving the industry’s net zero and circularity targets.
The GIC is an independent coalition guided by global chemical industry leaders including BASF, SABIC, Clariant, Covestro, LyondellBasell, Mitsubishi Chemical Group, Sabanci, and Syensqo. The coalition provides a platform for companies to co-develop and spin off high-impact sustainability projects in the chemical sector. It catalyses the co-creation of new business models, R&D hubs, and proof-of-concept pilots aimed at reducing emissions and the reliance on fossil fuels.
Increasing circularity throughout the value chain is key to achieving net zero emissions in the chemical industry. With more than 160 years of history, SUEZ is a trusted partner for circular solutions in water and waste. Through recycling and energy recovery, SUEZ transforms waste into new resources: in 2023, the Group produced 2.7 million tonnes of secondary raw materials and generated 7.7 TWh of energy from waste and wastewater.
SUEZ plays a critical role in driving circularity in the chemical industry while reducing its dependence on fossil fuels. In particular, the Group has strong expertise in providing innovative and resilient solutions to global chemical giants for waste recycling and recovery. SUEZ provides circular solutions that enable industrial customers to phase out coal and fossil fuels, such as solid recovered fuels (SRF) from waste. SUEZ will bring this expertise to the GIC to collaborate with the chemical industry on new circular business models and scaling-up sustainable technologies.
Yves Rannou, SUEZ Executive Vice-President, Chief Operating Officer Recycling & Recovery, has been appointed to the Global Impact Coalition Executive Committee.
Sabrina Soussan, Chairman and CEO of SUEZ said: “The Global Impact Coalition is an important initiative to bring together different stakeholders in the chemical industry’s value chain to achieve their carbon neutrality and circularity goals. At SUEZ, we’ll bring our strong expertise and innovative vision in waste recycling and recovery to the Coalition. SUEZ is a strategic solutions provider to industries and communities for the circular economy and decarbonization. We look forward to playing our part in GIC’s high-impact projects and promoting circularity on the path to net-zero.”
Charlie Tan, CEO of the Global Impact Coalition, added: “We are thrilled to welcome SUEZ as a member of the Global Impact Coalition. A world leader in circular solutions for water and waste, SUEZ brings a unique and valuable perspective to the GIC. SUEZ represents a critical link in the value chain needed to enable truly transformative cross-industry projects. Together, we can speed our progress towards a circular, low-carbon emissions future.”
