TAIF Independent Sewage Treatment Plant begins the period of operation
  • The project has a great strategic importance as it is the first contract managed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model to come into operation in Saudi Arabia.
  • The project includes the planting of a 21-hectare green space around the plant to support the Saudi Green Initiative and contribute to the Kingdom’s journey towards achieving net zero carbon emissions.

The wastewater treatment plant in the city of Taif (Saudi Arabia), built by Tedagua and Tawzea, has started the operation after completing the construction within the contractual deadlines.

Tedagua and Tawzea have built a wastewater treatment plant with a capacity of 100,000 m3/day. In addition to its innovative design and cutting-edge technologies, the project has acquired a strategic relevance, as it is the first facility to enter into operation under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, a vital plan to meet the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Agenda 2030.

The plant has a conventional pretreatment and primary treatment, as well as a continuous flow SBR secondary treatment with Lucas® technology by WATERLEAU, a tertiary treatment of filtration and disinfection and a sludge treatment with anaerobic digestion. It also has a solar drying system which allows to achieve a dry waste for beneficial use with a dehydration percentage of over 90% and a biogas cogeneration system capable to generate more than the 30% of the plant’s capacity. These systems contribute to both increasing energy efficiency and reducing the plant’s energy footprint.

In addition, to support the Saudi Green Initiative and to contribute to the Kingdom’s path towards achieving net zero carbon emissions, the project included the planting of a 21-hectare green space around the plant, using the treated water for irrigation.

The entire Tedagua team would like to thank Saudi Water Partnership Company and all stakeholders, Tawzea and Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, for their support in bringing the project to completion.

Tedagua continues to fulfil its commitment to responsible construction, with the least impact on the environment, while maintaining its standards of quality and service to its customers and society.
