This important milestone has been achieved by the Project team, thanks to the result of the great work and commitment shown by all the parties involved, from the top management to the site personnel.
In this occasion, Abengoa, the international company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the infrastructure, energy, and water sectors, has celebrated the referred achievement in a ceremony lead by several representatives of ACWA Power, including Mr Paddy Padmanathan, President & CEO, Mr. Raad Al-Saady, Vice Chairman & Managing Director, and Dr. Tariq Nada, Vice President, Water and Technical Service, who awarded commemorative trophies for nineteen million safe working hours to EPC Project Management and awarded certificates and prizes to outstanding Health, Safety and Environment representatives, as well as construction workers.
The project involves the construction of a desalination plant with a capacity of 909,218 m3/day, which will guarantee supply to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi throughout the year and will be the first large scale desalination plant in the emirate that combines the production of drinking water with the generation of clean energy, thanks to the installation of a photovoltaic solar field that produces over 40 MW of power. Thus, it will be possible to reduce, in a sustainable way, the energy demand of the desalination plant.
Abengoa is a world leader company in the desalination sector worldwide, with an installed capacity of 1.7 million m3/d, which will be expanded to 4.3 million when the portfolio under execution is completed.
