Tokyo, Japan, June 26, 2024 – Toray Industries, Inc., announced today that its brand movie, “Straight Path,” has won the Branded Shorts of the Year Grand Prix in the National Competition category of Branded Shorts 2024. The organizer of this contest was Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2024 (SSFF & ASIA), the largest international short film festival in the region.
Branded Shorts is the only international advertising video competition in Japan, facilitated by the Academy Award accredited SSFF & ASIA. A panel of experts from the advertising, film, and other sectors votes for Branded Shorts of the Year in both the International and National competition categories. This year, out of 747 entries from around the world, there were 14 nominations for both the International and National categories respectively. The nominated brand movie, “Straight Path” was produced as one of Toray’s branding activities, conveying its corporate philosophy and business activities towards its diverse stakeholders.

The movie highlights the inspiring success story of Tri Q. Huynh, president & CEO of California-based Toray Membrane USA, Inc., after interviewing numerous employees of the company. Tri immigrated to the United States as a political refugee after the Vietnam War. He was stunned to learn that people could access clean water just by turning on a tap. On entering the work force, he joined the Toray Group as an engineer, collaborating with fellow employees to make clean water available to people across the globe.
