Toray Industries, Inc., announced today that Toray’s reverse osmosis (RO) membrane has been selected by Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) for use in its Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant, located at Parañaque City, Philippines.
The plant is the first “direct potable reuse” plant in Asia, where the treated used water from a sewage treatment plant is directly converted and supplied as drinkable water that meets the 2017 Philippine National Standards for Drinking Water. The concessionaire Maynilad was granted a permanent operational permit for its NEW WATER Treatment Plant by the Department of Health – Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD), to serve the water to Parañaque City.
Toray’s long history and recognition of reverse osmosis (RO) membrane as a manufacturer, supplier and solution provider with a corporate slogan of “contributing to society through the creation of new value with innovative ideas, technologies and products”, was highly recognized to be selected at Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant, which was also fitting to Maynilad’s philosophy of “continuing to find innovative ways to deliver better services” to the citizens.
Toray will help maintain Philippine’s infrastructure products and technical services that it has cultivated through its experience with desalination plants worldwide.
With its high recognition of operating performance improvement, adoption of innovative technology, and sustainable financial model establishment, the Parañaque NEW WATER Treatment Plant has also been awarded a “Water Reuse Project of the Year” at the Global Water Awards 2023 held in Berlin, Germany.
Over the years, Toray has expanded its RO membrane production, sales, and technical support to assist water treatment plants around the globe. Applications extend from desalination and waste water reclamation to industrial usage. The aggregate water production capacity of Toray RO membranes is around 105 million cubic meters per day. That is enough to serve the water needs of 730 million people
Providing access to clean water is pivotal to The Toray Group Sustainability Vision, representing a roadmap to the World as Envisioned by Toray Group in 2050, and embodies Toray Vision 2030, through which the Group pursues sound, sustainable growth.
Toray will continue to provide RO membranes and other advanced membrane technologies and strengthen technical services to cater to local demand. It will thereby help resolve water issues in Asia and other regions in which industrial and population expansions will likely boost water demand.
