- Group in global Top 10 for revenues generated in environmental services
Number 1, globally, in the water sector and among the Top 10 foreign contractors active in the United States and Australia, as well as among the Top 10 for environmental services. These are the results of the 2023 rankings recently published by Engineering News-Record (ENR), the most influential U.S. trade magazine, which see Webuild growing and remaining at the top of the rankings among the largest foreign contractors committed to building strategic infrastructure and supporting the energy transition in various countries. Webuild surpasses the Chinese state construction giants in the water sector, as it has done for more than a decade, demonstrating a strong resilience in a challenging period at a global level for the entire construction sector following the COVID-19 pandemic, with the increased costs of living and raw materials and geopolitical complexities.
Webuild’s first position established by the ENR 2023 rankings is based on the analysis of 2022 revenues generated in the water sector outside the domestic market by the main international groups in the sector. These revenues for Webuild were for a large part generated from the Snowy 2.0 hydroelectric project in Australia, one of the largest globally for renewable energy. There is also the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) in Ethiopia, which is destined to become Africa’s largest hydroelectric dam. As of June 2023, 25% of total revenue made by Webuild comes from, on an accumulated basis, the clean hydro and clean water sectors. Sustainable services and infrastructure are an area that for the Group has huge growth potential, with the construction of water treatment and desalination plants being built globally by its subsidiary Fisia Italimpianti that provide water for more than 20 million people every day, especially in the Middle East.
The 2023 Top 250 ranking of international construction companies created by ENR according to the revenues generated by these companies outside their domestic markets in 2022, also registered a further rise by the Group, as it positioned itself as 15th due to the more than $6 billion in revenues coming from outside Italy, with a total revenue of approximately $8.6 billion.
Compared to 2022, Webuild’s ranking in the Top 10 foreign contractors active in Australia and the United States have also been confirmed, with the Group respectively in sixth and ninth position.
Webuild also climbed the Top 10 international constructor companies’ rankings for the amounts of revenue created in sectors linked to environmental services, positioning itself eighth, confirming its commitment to projects focused on environmental sustainability. As of June 30, 2023, over 90% of the Group’s construction backlog concerns projects connected to the advancement of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) set out by the United Nations.
